Setting up your Facebook Business Page

So you’re ready launch your new business and you’re pumped! You created your Facebook business page, filled out all the info and now you’re watching the “likes” ticker like a hawk – waiting for your page to go viral.

Reality check… as you’ve probably noticed, it’s like watching water boil.

While you’re waiting, there are probably a few quick and easy tweaks you can make to your page that will help increase your exposure. No, we’re not promising 100 instant likes. But there are a few easy things many people neglect that will help your visibility in the long run.

Follow this checklist and make sure you’ve done the following for your Facebook page:

Invite your Friends

A lot of people set up business pages and don’t invite anyone to like their page. This is the low-hanging fruit you should grab immediately. On the right-hand side of your page, you will see a prompt to Invite your Friends to Like this page. Yes, yes, yes! Invite them all – AND ask them to invite their friends!

Like Other Business Pages

Make a list of any and all other businesses that are relevant to your business and those of friends. Then visit those pages, click on the three dots underneath the Cover Photo and select “Like as Your Page.” Chances are, they’ll like you back. And, you’ll be able to keep on top of what other businesses are doing and posting by simply glancing at your Pages Feed.

Create a Username

Be sure to create a username for your page that matches your Page’s name. This will update the Page’s Facebook URL to help people find and remember your page. For example, if the name of your company is STA Marketplace, your username should be @STAMarketplace. To create a username for your page, click Create Page @Username on the left side of your Page.

Verify your Business

The gray verification badge lets people know that a Page for a business or organization is authentic. To be eligible for a gray verification badge, you must an Admin of your business Page and your page must be:

  1. Set up as a local business or service
  2. Published
  3. Contain a profile picture and a cover photo
  4. Have posts

To verify your page:

  1. Click Settings at the top of your Page.
  2. From General, click Page Verification.
  3. Click Verify this Page.
  4. Enter a publicly listed phone number for your business, your country and language.
  5. Click Call Me Now to allow Facebook to call you with a verification code.
  6. Enter the 4-digit verification code and click Continue.

And you’re off to the races! More to come on content creation and ways to increase your reach and exposure. Good luck!
